How are the samples collected?

In general buccal swabs or blood samples are used to carry out a paternity test. Under most circumstances, DNA samples are collected by simply rubbing a cotton-like swab against the inside of the person's cheek. This is a quick and painless procedure that is just as accurate as analysis performed on blood. We recommend that the individuals providing the buccal cell samples should not eat or drink (coffee) within the two hours prior to giving a sample.
